SUMMARY:Activate Your Network Webinar
DESCRIPTION:ROC is proud to feature Joann Lo\, Co-Director of Food Chain Workers Alliance\, and Frank Tamborello\, Executive Director of Hunger Action Los Angeles in this webinar. Joann and Frank will highlight real world scenarios in how their organizations get their respective networks to engage in state and local policy making. This will be an informative webinar for the entire CAFPC network\, especially for those looking to take the next step in advocacy with inclusion. \nTo REGISTER\, click HERE. \n  \n Joann Lo is the Co-Director of the Food Chain Workers Alliance\, a national coalition of workers organizations throughout the food system. The daughter of immigrants from Taiwan\, she graduated from Yale University with a degree in Environmental Biology and has organized with both unions and a worker center. Joann has been a labor and community organizer for almost 20 years. She is the Vice Chair of the Leadership Board of the Los Angeles Food Policy Council and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Domestic Fair Trade Association\, the City of Los Angeles’ Sweatfree Advisory Committee and the Enlace Institute Advisory Board. \nFrank Tamborello is Executive Director of Hunger Action LA. He was born into a large family in a small town. He then expanded his narrow mind by traveling into the wide world\, including a stint working with street children in Luanda\, Angola. Upon his return to the U.S. he eventually co-founded Hunger Action LA (HALA) in 2006.  HALA’s recent milestones include the passage of the city of LA’s surplus food ordinance in 2010\, the launching of LA’s first Market Match program in 2010; leading statewide advocacy efforts over years finally resulting in the repeal of the ban on CalFresh benefits for people with past felonies\, organizing state advocacy to increase SSI benefits \, and partnership with numerous other groups on the rights of workers\, tenants\, homeless persons and seniors to live with dignity and sufficient healthy affordable food.

SUMMARY:Join us for a Farm to School Evaluation Webinar Series Starting Wednesday 4/8/15
DESCRIPTION:Evaluation Made Easy: Learn How to Evaluate your Farm to School Activities \nRegister now for this 5-part webinar series Wednesdays 4/8 – 5/6 at 2 pm Pacific/5 pm Eastern. \nThe Farm to School Evaluation Toolkit\, created by the Colorado Farm to School Task Force and Spark Policy Institute\, is a resource to help farm to school programs of all sizes\, in all states\, undertake evaluation. Evaluation can serve many purposes for your farm to school program\, including enabling you to demonstrate your program’s success or progress. Evaluation information you collect allows you to better communicate your program’s impact to funders\, parents\, school leadership\, and other stakeholders. Evaluation can be a tool for you to recruit new funders. It can also be useful for program improvement. The toolkit and its webinar training series\, specifically designed for non-evaluators\, will walk you through each step of an evaluation\, providing easy-to-follow guidance for planning\, implementing\, and reporting on your evaluation. Hyperlinks to the data collection tools are ties to the farm to school outcomes\, making it simple to find the right tool for measuring the impact of your program. \nLearn more and register today!

SUMMARY:National Call to Connect Food Policy Councils and Build the Power of the Food Movement!
DESCRIPTION:Food policy councils are the growing title wave of the food movement. Since 2010\, the number of food policy councils in the nation has doubled from 111 to 220. Communities small and large have food policy councils – from Alamosa\, Colorado\, population 15\,000\, to Los Angeles\, CA\, population 3.8 million! They are winning on a wide range of issues from allowing homeowners to raise chickens in their backyards to fighting expansion of factory farms in a region; from reducing the amount of junk food available at schools to making more locally grown food available in school meals; from making more land available for urban gardeners to making more farmers' markets available for more SNAP recipients. Food Policy Councils are powrefully positioned to transform the system because they are placed-based and all politics are local. Now is the time to fire up the engines of change and begin networking food policy councils across the nation. \nCenter for a Livable Future\, Food Day 2014 and Roots of Change invite you to participate in national call dedicated to the empowerment of food policy councils and other place-based stakeholder bodies committed to transforming the food system on October 22\, from 8:00am to 9:50am PT. Please join us to hear from colleagues across the nation who\, like you\, are building the new food system through processes and projects that are transformative for cities\, counties and states. \nSix councils will offer seven-minute presentations that reveal visions\, lessons and triumphs from a variety of situations: urban and rural\, large and small\, state and local. No matter your situation\, there will be something to gain. Throughout the call participants will have time for comments and questions. \n_____ \nAgenda \n8:30 am Welcome\, Process & Introductions \n8:40 am Presentations & Dialogue \n9:45 am Closing Comments \n9:50 am End \n  \nPresenting Food Policy Councils \n1.     California \n2.     Colorado \n3.     Douglas County\, Kansas \n4.     Duval County\, Florida \n5.     Missoula\, Montana \n6.     Worcester\, Massachusetts \n  \nRSVP for the call using this link. For questions\, please contact Michael@rootsofchange.org.
