SUMMARY:National Call to Connect Food Policy Councils and Build the Power of the Food Movement!
DESCRIPTION:Food policy councils are the growing title wave of the food movement. Since 2010\, the number of food policy councils in the nation has doubled from 111 to 220. Communities small and large have food policy councils – from Alamosa\, Colorado\, population 15\,000\, to Los Angeles\, CA\, population 3.8 million! They are winning on a wide range of issues from allowing homeowners to raise chickens in their backyards to fighting expansion of factory farms in a region; from reducing the amount of junk food available at schools to making more locally grown food available in school meals; from making more land available for urban gardeners to making more farmers' markets available for more SNAP recipients. Food Policy Councils are powrefully positioned to transform the system because they are placed-based and all politics are local. Now is the time to fire up the engines of change and begin networking food policy councils across the nation. \nCenter for a Livable Future\, Food Day 2014 and Roots of Change invite you to participate in national call dedicated to the empowerment of food policy councils and other place-based stakeholder bodies committed to transforming the food system on October 22\, from 8:00am to 9:50am PT. Please join us to hear from colleagues across the nation who\, like you\, are building the new food system through processes and projects that are transformative for cities\, counties and states. \nSix councils will offer seven-minute presentations that reveal visions\, lessons and triumphs from a variety of situations: urban and rural\, large and small\, state and local. No matter your situation\, there will be something to gain. Throughout the call participants will have time for comments and questions. \n_____ \nAgenda \n8:30 am Welcome\, Process & Introductions \n8:40 am Presentations & Dialogue \n9:45 am Closing Comments \n9:50 am End \n  \nPresenting Food Policy Councils \n1.     California \n2.     Colorado \n3.     Douglas County\, Kansas \n4.     Duval County\, Florida \n5.     Missoula\, Montana \n6.     Worcester\, Massachusetts \n  \nRSVP for the call using this link. For questions\, please contact Michael@rootsofchange.org.
