Entrepreneurs working on issues related to healthy food access play an integral role in this wellbeing. Fixing the food system cannot be left only to government and NGOs; entrepreneurial spirit is required to efficiently complete the links between growers and end users and to ensure access for everyone. The individuals highlighted here have identified barriers to food access and have used their entrepreneurial creativity to overcome them.
Bu Nygrens, Co-Owner & Founder Veritable Vegetable
Bu is co-owner and Purchasing Manager of Veritable Vegetable, located in San Francisco, California. Established in 1974, VV is the nation’s oldest distributor of certified organic fruits and vegetables. Since joining in 1978, Bu has contributed to the company’s reputation for integrity, advocacy and leadership. Woman-owned and operated, VV serves organic farms and independent retail businesses throughout California, Hawaii, and the Southwest. Veritable Vegetable promotes equitable and sustainable food systems for all people.

Loren maintains a network of 35 small, family-owned farms and works with 25 school districts to bring high-quality fresh produce into schools in South San Francisco and Berkeley and as far south as Sweetwater and Chula Vista, covering nearly the entire state of California.
