Non Profits

The movement for healthy food and agriculture began and has grown largely as a result of non-profit organizations. The non-profits we have highlighted here reflect the breadth of issues covered by the movement.

It is through the collaboration of these and numerous other groups, along with entrepreneurs, policy makers, individual citizens and foundations that we will foster resilience and prosperity in California’s food and farming sector.

Economic Prosperity

These nonprofit organizations are working to ensure that farmers have in place the key conditions they need to survive and prosper. Their roles include protecting farmland from development so it is available for future generations of farmers, training minority farmers to succeed in the marketplace, and building sustainable economies in low-income communities.

Environment & Climate

The future of our planet hinges on our ability to produce food without destroying our ecosystem. These nonprofit organizations are finding ways to create restorative farms, ranches, and food businesses.

Healthy Food Access

The focus of these nonprofit organizations range from improving school food and eradicating childhood obesity to urban gardening. These organizations are integral to ensuring that 100% of Californians have access to abundant, safe, healthy, fresh, and affordable food.

Valued Workforce

These nonprofit organizations play a vital role in the current farm workers equity movement by empowering farm and food workers to start their own businesses and providing legal assistance to California’s rural poor.
