Public Sector: University/Colleges
The publically funded colleges and universities within California have played an historical role in providing the state’s farmers, ranchers, youth, homemakers, and gardeners with the knowledge they need to succeed in food production activities. In recent years, state budget cuts have severely impacted the higher education systems in-field work. Thus, it is essential that partnerships between these institutions and NGOs and business are built in order to increase the educational systems’ focus on agroecological, social justice and community health oriented research and education. Roots of Change is dedicated to that goal.
Our primary partners include:
Tom Tomich, UC Davis Agricultural Sustainability Institute, WK Kellogg Endowed Chair in Sustainable Food Systems
Steve Gleissman, Alfred E. Heller Professor of Agroecology at the University of California Santa Cruz
Hunter Francis of the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) Center for Sustainability.
