Goal:

The dinners were an effort to build relationships and collaboration with leaders and opinion-makers in production agriculture and to discuss the major issues in the industry.

Between February and June 2010, Roots of Change held eight Agriculture Outreach Dinners across the state. The dinners were an effort to build relationships and collaboration with leaders and opinion-makers in production agriculture and to discuss the major issues in the industry. Sixty-two representatives from production agriculture came together to attend dinners in Sacramento, Fresno, Kern, Sonoma, Modesto, Ventura, Salinas and San Diego counties. Dr. Tom Tomich, director of the UC Davis Ag Sustainability Institute, was invited to highlight the challenges related to nitrogen and carbon. The effort was coordinated by Holly King, a ROC fellow and production farmer in the Klamath Basin and Kern County. Through this outreach process, Roots of Change was able to build deeper relationship with the production agriculture community. This will facilitate discussion and furthers our goal to establish consensus regarding sustainability among a wide range of stakeholders in California’s food and farming.
